RS Berkane CAF Confederation Cup win equals title record
RS Berkane claimed the CAF Confederation Cup title once again, securing a 1-1 draw against Simba SC in Zanzibar to win the 2025 edition with a 3-1 aggregate score. This historic result marks their third CAF Confederation Cup triumph, tying the record held by CS Sfaxien.
Match Summary: RS Berkane Holds Firm
The second leg of the final was played in the heat of the Amaan Stadium, where Simba SC, backed by their home fans, came out aggressive. They opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Joshua Mutale and looked poised for a comeback.
Just minutes later, they missed a golden opportunity to double their lead. Their hopes dimmed further when Yusuph Kagoma received a second yellow card just after halftime, reducing Simba to 10 men. The intensity of the match grew, with two of Simba’s technical staff also sent off.
In the 73rd minute, Simba thought they had drawn level on aggregate when Steven Mukwala headed in a free kick from Jean Charles Aboua. However, the goal was disallowed after a lengthy VAR check, which confirmed an offside.

Sidibe Secures the Trophy
As the match entered the final moments, RS Berkane brought on substitute Soumaila Sidibe, who capitalised on a tight angle to score in the first minute of added time. The equaliser crushed Simba’s hopes and ensured RS Berkane’s name would once again be etched into the CAF record books.
This 1-1 draw was enough for Berkane to secure their third CAF Confederation Cup title, adding to their previous wins in 2020 and 2022.
🇲🇦 A Season to Remember
The 2024–2025 season will go down as the most successful in RS Berkane’s history. In addition to the CAF Confederation Cup, the club also won the Moroccan Botola Pro title for the very first time. With this continental title, Berkane has now equalled CS Sfaxien’s all-time record of three Confederation Cup wins.
Star forward Soumaila Sidibe reflected on the journey:
“Winning this title is a dream come true. It’s the result of teamwork, dedication, and the amazing support from our fans. We made history together.”
The Moroccan giants have now confirmed their spot in the CAF Champions League 2025, and fans are already looking forward to seeing if they can replicate their success on the continental stage.
